As I stated in my blog yesterday, today's (Sat July 23) scheduled "DIGS AT E-TOWN" event has been cancelled due to oppressive heat warnings, however, the "weather professionals" tell us that tomorrow's forecast, for Sunday July 24, for the 32nd ANNUAL NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS, OLD TIME DRAGS & FUNNY CAR REUNION is far more "people friendly", with temps in the 80's, so therefore, tomorrow's event is a go-- And I encourage y'all to not let today's pressure cooker scare you from keeping your plans to attend tomorrow/Sunday's NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS. I tell ya, this bizarre weather has broken heat records 'round these parts, yesterday I took a dip in the pool and the water didn't even feel cold!-- What's up with that?!?-- But hey, like I said, this oppressive heat is finally supposed to subside by tomorrow-- I'm extremely thankful for that... So anyways, I sincerely hope you're still planning to attend this undisputed premier East Coast nostalgia drag race tomorrow at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, I know that I sure as heck am, I wouldn't miss it for the world. Come and see old-school Dragsters, Funny Cars, Altereds, East Coast Gassers, Nostalgia Super Stocks, Roadsters, Legendary Display Cars, The North East Timing Association, Street Rods and Rat Rods-- AND drag racing celebrities, memorabilia, and vendors too. Nostalgia drag racing isn't just for grandpa, people of all ages and generations have a terrific time at this event-- Bring the whole family to experience E-Town's NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS-- I give this event FIVE "DOC" STARS, my highest possible recommendation and published rating, so you know your family is in for a fabulous day at the drags. Don't miss this opportunity to travel back to the years when the sport was young, vibrant and vivacious!!-- Don't miss your chance to step through the proverbial drag racing time tunnel, and experience this truly incredible "Blast from the Past" event!!... "BE THERE"!!... This is a definitely a bona-fide drag strip time warp that will stimulate all your senses!!...

For those of you who reside in the northeast, and have an appreciation of "old school" styled drag racing, this Sunday at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park is a "Dream Come True". This Sunday July 24th, it's the 32nd Annual NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS - OLD TIME DRAGS & FUNNY CAR REUNION all wrapped up into one exceptionally exciting nostalgia drag racing enchilada!! I've been attending this race from its humble beginning, and I have personally witnessed it grow into the undisputed premier nostalgia drag racing event of the entire east coast-- Often imitated, but definitely never duplicated, this is the grandaddy of "old school" drag racing extravaganzas. This race is definitely the REAL DEAL, no "smoke & mirrors" buffoonery like we've seen from some of its lame-duck imitators, No-Sir-ee Bob! Every type of imaginable nostalgia themed drag racing machinery will be at Raceway Park!!-- Dragsters, Funny Cars, Altereds, East Coast Gassers, Nostalgia Super Stocks, Legendary Display Cars, The North East Timing Association, Street Rods and Rat Rods-- AND there's drag racing celebrities, memorabilia, and vendors too. It's the complete nostalgia drag racing package that will provide plenty of entertainment for your whole family. This race isn't just for Grandpa, I've learned that people of all ages and generations have a terrific time at this event-- It truly is for EVERYBODY!!-- I give this event FIVE "DOC" STARS, my highest possible recommendation and published rating for a drag racing event, so you know that you and your family are in for a fabulous day at the drags!! If you haven't already made your plans to be at E-Town this Sunday, I suggest you do so right now!! Don't miss this opportunity to travel back to the years when the sport was young & vibrant, don't miss your chance to step through the drag racing time tunnel, and experience this truly incredible "Blast from the Past" event!!... "BE THERE"!!...

Every drag racing fan knows who Ron Capps is, that's a given. Well, Ron has a brother, Jon Capps, who is also quite the accomplished drag shoe in his own right. Last night at E-Town's Summer Motorsports Spectacular, Jon Capps, flew in from Vegas for two very important reasons. The first reason being that Jon's the hired gun of the Texas based "Jungle Jim" tribute Camaro Nitro Funny Car, and the other reason being that Jon very desperately wanted to see ROBOSAURUS for the first time in his life-- And yeah, it's debatable regarding which of the two reasons really took precedence for Jon's trip to Englishtown, ha ha, but seriously, Jon really was extremely "psyched" at the opportunity to finally see ROBOSAURUS, and of course he was really ultra-chuffed to get behind the wheel of the "Jungle" Camaro and put on a show for the tens of thousands of E-Town fans... Jon did both-- He drove the "Jungle Jim" Camaro to a spectacular win over the "BRAND X" Mustang-- And John did get to experience ROBOSAURUS doing his incredible car-crushing, fire breathing performance. When it was all said and done, Jon dazzled the fans with his heavy-footed driving skills in the "Jungle" Camaro, AND Jon finally had the opportunity to be dazzled himself by ROBOSAURUS-- A true "win win" situation. Other Nostalgia themed Funnies were also booked for the show. It was my first time seeing the fabulous "FRANTIC FORD", the pristine appearing 'Stang managed to break in the 6's, but had a troubling fire on the top-end-- Hope that team can recover soon. My buddy Rocky Pirrone made lots of flames and fans with his "SCREAMING EAGLE" Pontiac. The new "TIME BOMB" Vega was a sight for sore eyes. Being a long time supporter of the Nostalgia Funnies, I was proud to see them wow the mammoth-sized Wed Nite E-Town crowd. That said, be sure to be at E-Town THIS SUNDAY, July 24th for the 32nd Annual NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS!! Jon Capps will return with the "Jungle" Camaro, and lots more Floppers will be there too. Plus you'll see old-school Diggers, Altereds, The East Coast Gassers, Nostalgia Super Stocks, N.E.T.O., Display Cars, Celebrities, and so much more!! I'll be there, and if you're a diehard drag racing fan you should darn well be there too!!...

TONIGHT PUT FAMILY FIRST AND BRING 'EM TO RACEWAY PARK!!...

Tonight I urge all you Moms and Dads reading this to do the right thing, put all your mundane everyday chores and humdrum routines aside, and make a concentrated effort to PUT YOUR FAMILY FIRST, and bring 'em all out to OLD BRIDGE TOWNSHIP RACEWAY PARK. In this modern world in which we live, there seems to be less and less time for families to spend "quality time" together, less time for family members to connect with each other and create the kind of positive family memories that can be cherished for a lifetime. I assure you, if you gather up your whole family and come on out tonight to the 41st Annual P.C. Richard & Son SUMMER MOTORSPORTS SPECTACULAR presented by Modern Rental, you'll be creating the best of memories that you and your kids will be able to share for a lifetime-- And hey, isn't that really the sort of thing that's most important in this life? There's genuine value in a family taking the time to go somewhere special together and share in the fun with each other-- And to be quite frank, I must say, this particular evening's SUMMER MOTORSPORTS SPECTACULAR is indeed the perfect kind of family oriented event for you and your entire family to enjoy together. Imagine the look of wonderment on your kids' faces when they see ROBOSAURUS come to life and spark their imagination. Think of the sheer joy you'll all experience while watching the WORLD'S GREATEST MONSTER TRUCKS doing donuts on the ETown track at warp speed. When the JET CARS fire-up, your family will all ignite the friendly flames of togetherness as you share in the incredible spectacle. And hey, be sure to bring Grandpa along too, because he'll get a real kick out of seeing the NOSTALGIA FUNNY CARS on the bill (they look just like the cars he used to enjoy as a kid at the drags!!)... What I'm telling you is do not miss this opportunity to spend a night like this together with your whole family-- Raceway Park truly is the home of "FAST FAMILY FUN", and tonight's SUMMER MOTORSPORTS SPECTACULAR is going to be the optimum embodiment of that. Potent PRO MODS, NITRO HARLEYS, FIREWORKS and CARTOON CHARACTERS are also going to be featured at tonight's big show. Gates open 5pm. The main event starts at 8pm. I confidently rate this event with FIVE "DOC" STARS-- That means this event has my highest rating of recommendation, so you know it's the real deal in family entertainment. Tonight, Wed, July 20th, I expect to see YOU and your ENTIRE FAMILY at OLD BRIDGE TOWNSHIP RACEWAY PARK!!...

TOMORROW NIGHT WEDNESDAY JULY 20TH there's only one place to be for families who reside in the New Jersey area and surrounding States-- There's only one event that will deliver the complete satisfaction in motorsports entertainment that your family so rightfully deserves-- That event is the 41st Annual P.C. Richards & Son Summer Motorsports Spectacular presented by Modern Rental. One of the main reasons why this is a "must attend" event is because ROBOSAURUS returns to Raceway Park for this "one night only" ultra-hip happening, to express his amazing pyrotechnic temperament, and you sure as heck don't want your family to miss the opportunity to experience "ROBO" in all his towering glory. He's a walking and talking, fire breathing inferno of mammoth proportions-- He's the dazzling mechanical dinosaur who will make your jaw drop with his high-tech T-Rex like antics. Monster Trucks are also a major feature of this event-- The bill includes GRAVE DIGGER, SUPERMAN, BATMAN, STALLION, VIPER, and the new sensation of the MONSTER TRUCK world, the "MONSTER SCHOOL BUS"!!-- The kids are gonna wish this beast picked them up for a ride to school!! Also featured for your family's entertainment pleasure are the Jet Cars, Pro Mods, Fireworks, Nitro Harleys and Nostalgia Funny Cars (Dad & Grandpa will love the Nostalgia Funny Cars, trust me on this!!) Gates open at 5pm-- The feature show kicks off at 8pm-- Every spectator ticket is a pit pass, enabling you full access to see all the evening's performers doing their thing in the pits. Cartoon Characters will be on hand to meet the kiddies-- There's just so much going on-- every minute will be filled with super stimulation of all your family's senses!! "BE THERE" Tomorrow Night At Raceway Park!!... And while I have your attention, also please remember that THIS weekend, Sunday, July 24th is ETown's NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS-- If you want to see what drag racing was like back in the 60s and 70s, you best make plans to be at Raceway Park on Sunday. This is the premier nostalgia event of the entire east coast, often imitated , but never duplicated-- I give this race my absolute highest rating for a nostalgia drag racing event (Five "Doc" Stars), so you just know it's got to be good!!-- Make plans to attend RIGHT NOW!!

Last night's "CYBERBULLY" movie on ABC-TV dealt with the teen world of online cyber bullying. I watched to see how the film's producers would handle the issue, and they did a decent job of it. Of course, we all know that on the drag racing internet, the cyberbullies are middle-aged, man-o-pausal, blowharded men who are far beyond their teenage years. They're guys still stuck in the "All Male Only San Francisco Bath House" era, desperately clinging on to a stale and moldy pseudo Village People "Macho Man-Woman Hater" mentality-- The kind of guys who are determined to convince us all that "Jungle Jim" was a jerk (like them) when he was alive, and that if he was still alive today, he'd be even a bigger jerk, and "THAT'S ALRIGHT", because THAT'S how men are "SUPPOSED" to act, bla bla bla (duh!)-- Sorry guys, I'm not buying that bogus brand of blowhard buffoonery for one minute, because there's no way "Jungle Jim" would have gotten as far as he did in life being the kind of jerk that the cyberbullies want us to so insistently believe he was-- Like I said, sorry, Charlie, I'm just not buyin' it-- I'm sure "Jungle" wasn't a jerk... The TV movie showed us that just like the aging cyberbullies of the drag racing world, teen cyberbullies are also pretty pathetic characters, and need to get a life and grow up... By the way, last night was the season premier of "BREAKING BAD" on the AMC network, I thoroughly enjoy the show and suggest watching it for those who crave ultra-intense TV... Switching gears here, please don't forget that THIS Wednesday Night, July 20th, Old Bridge Township Raceway Park will host their 41st Annual P.C. Richard & Son Summer Motorsports Spectacular presented by Modern Rental. ROBOSAURUS will come out of retirement to provide car-crushing, fire breathing top-shelf entertainment for kids of all ages. And you'll also see Monster Trucks, Jet Cars, Dragsters, Wicked Doorslammers, Funny Cars, Nitro Harleys, Cartoon Characters for the kiddies, and so much more. Gates open at 5pm-- The Thrill Show begins at 8pm. Every spectator ticket is a pit pass with full access to the evening's performers. I strongly recommend this event for everyone because it truly is "FAST FAMILY FUN"!!...

In yesterday's blog, I discussed some of what I believe to be the profound parallels and similarities I've observed between the sport of DRAG RACING, and the ultra-competitive LITTLE-GIRL BEAUTY PAGEANTS that are currently seen (and successfully exploited) on the popular TODDLERS & TIARAS television program... I asked my readers (YOU) to email me your opinions about how you view the similarities and differences, and I also promised y'all that Stephanie, and yours truly, would read your emails (provided they're relatively brief and to the point), and I'd share your take on my observations here on the blog... An overwhelming number of you wound up expressing your opinion that the success of our sport's JUNIOR DRAG RACING phenom shows that there's actually much more of a divide, as opposed to a parallel, between DRAG RACING, and KIDDIE BEAUTY PAGEANTS-- It seems that your opinion of the mild manner in the way most parents who put their little kids in JR. DRAGSTERS behave, is way-different, and way more beneficial for the kids, than the way the often "overbearing stage moms" on the TODDLERS & TIARAS show handle their respective offspring competing in the KIDDIE BEAUTY PAGEANT SCENE-- I must say, I have to agree 100%-- And to be honest, this is a profound take on the issue that I didn't really go into, but hey, you did, so let's discuss-- It is certainly true that most parents I see at the drag strip who have kids competing in the JR. DRAGSTER classes handle their little ones with far more grace, restraint, and respect, than the "manic" moms you see on TODDLERS & TIARAS handling their kids. On the TODDLERS & TIARAS show, you usually see moms yelling in their kid's faces to perform beyond reasonable expectations, and encouraging their young ones in a way that definitely doesn't teach them the sort of proper "life lessons" that JR. DRAGSTER parents try to instill in their children. While "good sportsmanship" and "fair play" are often the lessons taught by parents to their helmet-wearing kids competing in JR. DRAGSTERS, there's much more of a "dog eat dog" and "by any means necessary" attitude drummed into the young developing brains of the little tiara wearing pageant girls by their moms. Like I said, this wasn't a side of the story that I focused on, but you folks sure did with your responses, and quite frankly, Stephanie and I found your take on this issue to be more compelling than mine! HA!-- So, that said, I guess DRAG RACING wins over TODDLERS & TIARAS as being the more morally sound and ethical choice of competition for our kids to participate. Thanks to all of you who took the time to respond-- Your opinions were most enlightening-- I certainly realize that I've got plenty of "smart cookies" who read this blog with regularity...

TODDLERS & TIARAS VS. DRAG RACING...

Have you ever watched TODDLERS & TIARAS? It's a popular TV show on The Learning Channel. The program showcases the competitive world of child pageants. These are competitions, often between little girls who are barely old enough to walk, and they're judged on beauty, personality and the elaborate dresses they wear. It's one of those kind of TV shows, sort of like HOARDERS, and INTERVENTION, where you might be somewhat repulsed by what you're seeing, but you still find yourself compelled to watch. I mean, yeah, the little girls are cute, but it's weird to see how their parents (uh, mostly always the MOMS) dote over their daughters to a point of ad nauseum (and beyond). Sometimes it's just plain sick. That said, when you really get down to it, I've come to the realization that the kiddie beauty pageant circuit does share some parallels and similarities with drag racing-- This might upset some of the "Village People-esque" pseudo "macho man" overly-sensitive types who read this blog (Uh, like, what DOESN'T upset those type of bogus blowhards?!?, Ha Ha), just kidding, but in all seriousness, I'm the gal who is well known for "Telling It Like It Is", so here I go... In many of the pageants on TODDLERS & TIARAS, contestants (well, their parents) pay a substantial entry fee, sometimes as high as $300.00-- And even if you win the top "Grand Supreme" title of the pageant, the most the little girls win is usually a fraction of that, and a gaudy looking "tiara" that probably cost the pageant promoter a couple bucks (I'm sure the promoters buy them in bulk)-- Yeah, it's kind of like drag racing, you can pay a relatively hefty entry fee, and if you're lucky enough to win, your return and total earnings might be a bit on the thin side. Lots of the families of the little girls cross the country in large and expensive RVs, spending lots of money on gas and tolls, uh, much the same way that some drag racers travel from race to race, sinking plenty of budget into transportation. The parents of the little girls spend endless bucks on over-priced dresses, hairdos, hair pieces, make-up, spray tanning, dancing lessons, personality coaching, and false teeth for the little ones who still lack a full mouth of chompers-- Kind of like the way drag racers have to spend loads of money on so many different items, like motors, chassis, spray paint jobs, trans, aftermarket parts, fire suits, etc-- So, what's the difference between three year old girls parading around in puffy little dresses on beauty pageant runways, and adult men and women campaigning race cars on the drag strip? Well, for now, you tell me-- You can email me your thoughts (please keep it brief) by using the "Contact Us" link at the top of this page-- My assistant Stephanie, and I will read your emails, and I'll write some of your feedback here on the blog-- And then I'll offer up my opinion...

This weekend July 16th & 17th is WATERFEST at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. WATERFEST is the largest VW/Audi Car Show and Motorsport event in North America, and the second largest of its kind in the entire world. WATERFEST is now in its 17th strong year, and it's a two-day event that continues to grow and get better with each new yearly edition. It's a water-cooled Volkswagen and Audi enthusiast's heaven on earth. I know that for an absolute fact, because I've attended this event several times, and while it's somewhat of an "alternative" sort of drag racing shindig, I dare say that as a racing event, it's got more vibrancy and gusto than some other, uh, more "conventional" events I've covered as a professional drag racing journalist. I have a blast at this race because the people who bring their cars, and the folks who come to spectate are charged with such a positive aura that it's outright contagious!!-- I kid you not!!... It's drag racing, it's a car show, heck, it's so many things going on, with so many genuinely enthused people. If you're naive and don't think these cars are cool, you're wrong, there's so many amazing rides that show up for this "water-cooled" weekend-- Hey, even on a recent edition of the often stuffy and slightly stagnant smelling Barrett-Jackson TV auction show, the vehicle that fetched the highest bid wasn't a Cobra or a 'Vette, or even an old-school 'Cuda with "matching numbers"-- No Sir-ee Bob!!-- It was a classic 1963 Volkswagen Bus!!-- HA!!-- Anyways, for all you stuffy, grumpy, and crusty generational drag fans who wanna see how the more "lively" crowd gets their drag racing jollies, I recommend you lift yourself up from that creaking rocking chair situated behind your moldy 'puter keyboard, and come on down to ETown for WATERFEST this weekend, you'll have the opportunity to experience a scene where folks don't spend endless hours complainin' and whinin', but instead, spend their time living a life of farfegnugen inspired fun and water-cooled hot rodding happiness...

Next Wednesday night, July 20th, Old Bridge Township Raceway Park is proud to host the longest running thrill show of the season, the 41st Annual P.C. You'll see Monster Trucks, Jet Cars, Dragsters, Wicked Doorslammers, Funny Cars, Nitro Harleys, Cartoon Characters for the kiddies-- AND in his ONLY appearance of the 2011 season, ROBOSAURUS returns to Raceway Park!!-- "ROBO" returns to Englishtown to knock your proverbial socks off!! We all know that he's the towering fire-breathing dinosaur with a terrible temper!!... Admission for adults - $30, kids age 6-11 - $10, kids under 6 - Free, parking is Free... This event always proves to provide top-shelf, captivating and compelling motorsports entertainment for everyone. Imagine the joy on all your family member's faces when they're completely enthralled in the ultimate drag strip "THRILL SHOW" experience!! Make plans NOW to attend. This is one event you definitely don't want to miss!! Don't Forget!!-- Next Wednesday Night Raceway Park is THE PLACE to be!! IT'S GOING TO ROCK THE EARTH'S ROTATION!!...
